Full Time and Exempt
Reports to the Director of Policy and Development
WHO WE ARE
The New Pennsylvania Project (NPP) was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented and often neglected communities of color and immigrant communities. We will register them to vote, provide education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize people to vote in every election – twice a year.
POSITION – Democracy Project Coordinator
The Democracy Project Coordinator is a full-time position that will facilitate a peer-learning cohort of three democracy/climate organizers across Pennsylvania as a part of Energy Foundation’s two-year Equitable Democracy Project program. This position will facilitate a multi organization cohort of the three organizers to support them, facilitate sharing of best practices, compare metrics and help ensure teams meet their outreach targets, keep each other energized, provide communications support, and build relationships across state lines and organizational missions. This position will report directly to the Director of Policy and Development.
This position runs through August 31, 2025 with a possibility of an extension.
Because our centered communities and colleagues come from a wide range of backgrounds, this position needs to be able to thoughtfully navigate issues related to diversity, race, equity and inclusion, and bring a deep commitment to advancing these values.
About the Equitable Democracy Project
Organizers within the cohort will run educational, 501(c)(3)-compliant grassroots organizing campaigns in Commonwealth communities most affected by climate pollution and the impacts of climate change, and will engage and mobilize first-time, high opportunity voters, or otherwise disenfranchised voters to participate in the 2023 and 2024 elections.
The program seeks to achieve the following goals:
- Increased voter turnout in 2023 and 2024 on issues of climate justice;
- Establish a narrative that climate justice is a driver for voter turnout in historically disenfranchised communities in Pennsylvania; and
- Achieve increased climate messaging by candidates in 2024 thanks to demonstrated increases in turnout by voters who care about climate in 2023.
