HARRISBURG, Pa. – Following the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, and decimate the right to abortion in the United States, New Pennsylvania Project chief executive officer Kadida Kenner, provided the following statement:
“We are deeply disturbed by today’s ruling. Our rights are in grave danger. It Starts with the overturning of settled law, but it doesn’t end there.
Abortion access is one of several fundamental rights currently under attack in the U.S., including our right to vote, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and a host of other rights, that are intertwined with our right to liberty in which Roe v. Wade was grounded. The overturn of Roe vs. Wade potentially threatens other landmark cases such as Brown v. Board of Education and Obergefell v. Hodges.
Today’s decision is an unconscionable rollback of fundamental rights for all people in the U.S. We’ve been fighting for so long. We do defense well, but now is the time to get on offense now. We must vote our values to protect our rights – while we still can”
Abortion bans like Mississippi’s are part of the intertwined systems of oppression that deny Black, Indigenous, and other people of color access to their rights and are rooted in anti-Black racism, white supremacy, and other forms of discrimination.
We will not stand silently while our rights are taken away by a radical, activist court. Together, we will fight for a better future, where everyone is free to make decisions about our futures and our families, whoever we are and wherever we live.
